HRANS website and membership portal
HRANS is the definitive membership association for Human Resources professionals in Nova Scotia and PEI. This application developed under my company banner (InnovaIT Web Services) provides dynamic information to the public and to the association's members. It includes a full e-commerce payment gateway, an event management system, knowledge management archive, forums, and member directories driven by a moderate back-end database and personally developed content management system.
InnovaIT was chosen to help HRANS move from a simple web presence to a position where their web technologies supported their organizational goals - both financially and operationally. As project manager and senior consultant, my tasks included facilitating discussion on functional requirements, negotiating diverse user needs, clarifying and prioritizing functional and technical requirements, system analysis and design, solution presentation and incorporation of end-user test feedback.
Since the development of the original idea in 2001, the organization has grown from under 500 members to over 1200, and this growth has been supported in large part by the vision and robustness of the member management system and the attendant content management system. InnovaIT has maintained its status as the developer of record through three Board elections and numerous executive and operational staff changes and in 2007 was selected to redevelop the application to incorporate a CMS from a third-party vendor to allow HRANS to better control its web communications. The website has moved from a cost center in 2001 to a profit center, generating six figures a year through advertising and communications revenues.
