Experience
    Collaboration --> Faculty Working Groups

Organization/Context: NSCC AANM

Reflection - As Curriculum Consultant in the School of Applied Arts & New Media, I am responsible for managing the collection, maintenance and development of the school's curriculum. The curriculum is actually developed by faculty working groups but at the time I took over the position, there were no formal working groups. Between 2002 and 2005 I developed processes and documentation to define the program and course development teams that became the school's faculty working groups.

Since 2005, the effort has focused on tweaking the processes and helping the working groups to become self-managing and mature in their own activities and processes. Negotiating the political and resource requirements of campuses and schools, I have been able to support these important teams to become highly functional. Team-building, process management, negotiation, conflict resolution and consensus building have been key activities and skills I have had to engage to achieve the success this far.

As working groups mature even further, the role of curriculum consultant becomes increasingly a true consulting role - serving the groups with timely research, and advice on policy, procedures and academic processes.
