Reflection - Following the model of development used by NSCC Employee Services, I will work within the Curriculum Unit and Academic Services department to plan the implementation of a portal for Academic Services.

Challenges: I must demonstrate patience in working with those untrained in web planning and online communications strategies. Many people feel that because they can develop a strong document or presentation they know how to develop a website - but the web is not the same as a static document or a guided presentation, and web and content strategy is not well understood at the college.
Consensus on what should be in the Academic Services portal and how it should be organized may be a difficult negotiation.

Action Plan: Confirm/develop design and data team.
Consult with broad stakeholder groups
Study model of Employee Services and develop level or categorization strategy
Propose drafts of potential category division
Confirm level design with stakeholder groups
Collect materials and links relating to category specifications
Tag materials to structure
Present beta of solution - collect feedback
Negotiate consensus on final level design
Adjust structure according tofeedback and consensus
Deploy portal by Christmas 2010
